Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan commented on the searches conducted by the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs at his house in Yerevan, businessman told RT, APA reports.

"They wanted to hold a mask show and detain me. The people who gathered in the yard and ordinary people resisted," Karapetyan said.

According to him, the street where he lives in Yerevan is currently completely blocked.

It should be noted that information about the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan had previously spread.

Armenia’s Criminal Police have launched a search at the residence of Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir Group, APA reports citing Sputnik Armenia.

Karapetyan’s vehicles were reportedly removed from in front of his home.

While Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that several individuals have been detained, it did not clarify whether Karapetyan is among them.

The developments began after Karapetyan publicly voiced support for the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Commenting on the situation via social media, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated: “This is not the village of Nizhniy Tapr in Kaluga; this is Armenia. I hope the taste of the state remains with you.”

Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed the detention of Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan. Ministry spokesperson Narek Sargsyan stated that Karapetyan was taken into custody in Yerevan.
