On June 18, the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on the mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, service, and official passports” enters into force, APA reports.

The Agreement was signed on November 15, 2024, in Baku, during a meeting held within the framework of COP29 between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Khaleel.

The relevant draft law was discussed and adopted at the session of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held on December 27, 2024, and was later approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Agreement aims to further strengthen and develop friendly relations between Azerbaijan and the Maldives by facilitating the movement of citizens holding diplomatic, service, and official passports.

According to the agreement, citizens of both parties holding valid diplomatic and service (official) passports may enter each other's territories without a visa, transit through, exit from, and stay for up to 90 days from the date of entry without a visa.
