Azerbaijan was subjected to a coordinated disinformation campaign during the Iran-Israel War - Commission

The Temporary Commission of the Milli Majlis on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats, in continuation of its June 18, 2025 statement, reports that during and following the 12-day confrontation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, the Republic of Azerbaijan was deliberately targeted by hostile forces operating in neighboring countries through a coordinated disinformation campaign, the Commission told APA.

Despite Azerbaijan’s statements at all levels, monitoring conducted by the Commission has revealed that groups operating both within and outside the territory of the friendly and neighboring Islamic Republic of Iran have disseminated false news and narratives regarding Azerbaijan’s alleged role in the conflict. These disinformation efforts have been widespread across platforms such as Telegram, TikTok, Facebook, X, and YouTube, aimed at undermining the security and national interests of our state.

The campaign also identified the Iranian public as a key target audience, with observed efforts to instill anti-Azerbaijani sentiment within Iranian society.

Following provocative statements made by the Iranian ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, the Commission has further observed a marked increase in anti-Azerbaijani and inflammatory rhetoric from pro-Armenian circles and individuals within Iran, including networks affiliated with Armenia.

In addition, members of Azerbaijani-origin groups residing in Iran and actively engaging in anti-Azerbaijani activities have been found to use social media platforms to issue incitements to Azerbaijani citizens, veiled under religious rhetoric, calling for acts of provocation against the state.

According to the Commission’s findings, the anti-Azerbaijan campaign is being conducted by over 270 Iran-linked profiles across nearly 600 accounts, predominantly in Azerbaijani, Russian, Persian, and to a lesser extent in English, Turkish, and Arabic. Furthermore, more than 215 active accounts connected to these groups have been identified on the TikTok platform alone.

The Temporary Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats continues to closely monitor these hostile activities in cooperation with relevant state institutions and is implementing appropriate countermeasures.
