Russian Investigative Committee charges Azerbaijanis detained in Yekaterinburg

The Russian Investigative Committee has brought charges against Azerbaijanis detained in Yekaterinburg, said the official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, APA's Russian bureau reports.

According to her, charges have been brought against members of a criminal group involved in a number of particularly serious crimes in Yekaterinburg.

"The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues to investigate the criminal case on the facts of the murder and attempted murder of persons from the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Sverdlovsk region in 2001, 2010 and 2011.

The accused in the criminal case are Mazahir Safarov, Akif Safarov, Ayaz Safarov, Ahliman Ganjiyev, Shahid Lalayev and Bakir Safarov. Depending on their role and degree of participation in the commission of the crimes, five of them are already charged under Part 2 of Article 105 and Part 3 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Based on the motion of the investigation, the court has chosen a measure of arrest for six accused. All of them are citizens of the Russian Federation.

The investigation has established that the accused members of the criminal group were involved in the murder of Yunis Pashayev, who died from stab wounds in 2001; an attempted contract killing of F. Shirinov in 2010; and the murder of Azerbaijani citizen I. Hajiyev in 2011. According to the investigation, the motives behind these crimes were disputes over business influence and personal revenge.

During the on-site examination of the statements, one of the accused gave a detailed statement about the circumstances of the crime. He also exposed his accomplices in the crimes. The investigation of the criminal case is continuing," the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia noted.
