Half of the victims in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall died of fire, investigation materials say

Half of those killed in the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue in Moscow died as a result of the fire, APA reports citing the investigation materials.

Main causes of deaths at Crocus City Hall

The investigation documents state that a total of 149 people lost their lives, and 70 of them died without any gunshot wounds—either by suffocation during the fire or due to damage to their respiratory system caused by high temperatures. The causes of death are listed as thermal inhalation trauma and carbon monoxide (toxic gas) poisoning.

1,971 people faced the real danger of death

Other individuals died mainly as a result of gunshot wounds, and the cause of death for some victims could not be determined. According to the data, there were up to 2,000 people in the concert hall at the time of the attack. The investigation documents emphasize that 1,971 people present at Crocus City Hall during the incident faced a real threat to their lives, although approximately 1,700 of them did not later seek medical assistance.

It should be noted that the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall occurred on March 22, 2024, at 20:00 Moscow time. The attack involved mass shootings and explosions. The attackers opened fire on civilians in the concert hall, set the hall on fire, and then fled the scene in a car.

The attack was carried out by four armed individuals, all of whom were apprehended by Russian law enforcement agencies and are under investigation.

A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of 18 people in connection with the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. Following the attack on Crocus, charges have been brought including terrorism, preparation of a terrorist act, participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, as well as the illegal circulation of weapons and explosives.
