The European Union and the United States should not rush to seize frozen Russian assets, as the fate of these assets could be used in negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in an interview with Fox Business, APA reports.
"As for the frozen assets, I think they are part of the negotiations with Vladimir Putin. So I don't think they should be seized right now. They are like a pawn on the negotiating table," Bessent emphasized.
Scott Bessent also noted that during the negotiations on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, it will become clear which part of these assets will be directed to the restoration of Ukraine. The Treasury Secretary called on European leaders to exert economic pressure on Russia, because the conflict "is happening in their backyard."
