Total Lunar eclipse tonight: ‘Blood moon’ to appear

This evening, as the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, the phenomenon will reach its peak.

According to APA, Queen’s University in Northern Ireland reported this event.

The phenomenon will also be visible in parts of Europe, Australia, and Africa.

On Sunday night, during a total lunar eclipse in Asia, as well as parts of Europe, Australia, and Africa, it will be possible to observe the so-called “Blood Moon” phenomenon, APA reports.

When the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, the planet’s shadow falls on the Moon, giving it a strange, deep red color—a sight that has fascinated people for millennia.

In Asia, particularly in India and China, residents will have the best view of the total eclipse on Sunday. The event will also be visible in eastern Africa and western Australia.

In Europe and Africa, observers will be able to witness a partial eclipse briefly as the Moon rises above the horizon in the evening. However, the Americas will not be able to view the eclipse this time.

The total lunar eclipse will last from 17:30 GMT to 18:52 GMT.

According to Ryan Milligan, an astrophysicist at Queen’s University Belfast, the reason the Moon appears red during a lunar eclipse is that only sunlight filtered and refracted through Earth’s atmosphere reaches the Moon.
