The first lesson of weekend Azerbaijani language courses for Azerbaijanis in Kyrgyzstan for the 2025-2026 academic year was held, announced the chairman of the "Unity" Organization of Azerbaijanis in Kyrgyzstan, Khansuvar Bakhshaliyev, APA reports.
He noted that weekend Azerbaijani language courses have been organized in Bishkek for 3 years now: "In the villages of Lenin and Novonikalayevka, where many Azerbaijanis live, the courses began in the spring of this year. In the near future, an Azerbaijani language course is planned to be opened in Kant, one of the other cities where Azerbaijanis live the most. Currently, a teacher is being sought for this."
According to him, Azerbaijanis have been living in Kyrgyzstan for about 100 years: "Our generation speaks Azerbaijani poorly, but understands it. Our children understand the language even worse and can hardly speak it. Since they are educated in Russian here, they speak mainly in Russian."
It should be noted that a total of approximately 65 people from various age groups have enrolled in these courses, which were held in the capital Bishkek, as well as in the villages of Lenin and Novonikalayevka, at the initiative of the Union of Azerbaijanis in Kyrgyzstan.
