Kallas: New EU members by 2030 is realistic goal

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated on Tuesday that the EU welcoming new members by 2030 is a "realistic" objective, APA reports.

"Enlargement is a necessity if we want to be a stronger player on the world stage ... Expanding the EU is in our best interest, it's a long-term investment in security, stability and economy," Kallas stated at a press conference regarding the EU enlargement report, but warned that joining the bloc remains a "fair, tough and merit-based process."

Moreover, the high representative shared that score cards are "largely positive" for Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Moldova, while the outlook is mixed for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Turkey, North Macedonia, and negative for Georgia.
