“Qarabag” will face “Chelsea” in the IV round of the main stage of the UEFA Champions League, Apasport.az reports.
Aghdam club head coach Gurban Gurbanov, who answered journalists’ questions at a press conference held before the match, said that the game would be interesting.
“We will be playing against a club with a great history. The arrival of such teams and players in Baku is an additional motivation for the fans. I have repeatedly noted that matches like this provide extra stimulus for football in our country. We did not prepare poorly for the game. We want to play well and competitively. I trust my players. I believe the fans will enjoy the match,” he said.
Gurban Gurbanov commented on the fact that Chelsea will not train in Baku, and at the same time, the opponent will not have some of their leading players: "Such situations happen a lot. If you are interested, they have played a lot in this mode. For such teams, appearing on match day should not be a problem. We ourselves have experienced such situations. Now, the fact that Chelsea will not train should not create an additional advantage for us. In other words, we should not find any comfort in this moment.
You cannot discuss one or two players of such big teams. They are big clubs and have big goals. There is not one player, there are two. Their squad is very large. We just should not look for small details in them. We should adapt to their game system more."
The head coach of “Qarabag” noted that winning against big clubs is very important: “Such games are a great incentive. We have no victory against English representatives, we have not won any points. The English Premier League is a completely different level, it is the strongest league in the world. They surpass all football countries. Even if we lose against such opponents, we have a win. I have said before, we must be able to stand firm, we must fight confidently”.
Gurban Gurbanov also clarified what tactics they will use tomorrow: “Chelsea” has been rotating in recent times. They play with a different squad in the Champions League and a different squad in the Premier League. There are two details that they change. Tomorrow we will express our opinions to the players according to the squad. It does not matter to them that these teams change their squad in such games. We will try to do what we know better. We will try to use some details during the game. The players should enjoy this game.
Gurban Gurbanov noted that they have almost determined the starting lineup and that the final decision will be made after tomorrow morning's training.
He added that they are constantly looking for strikers and are considering transferring players to several positions.
