Ambassador: Georgia's EU membership seems impossible even in 2030

Georgia is not on the path to membership in the European Union (EU) either in 2030 or later, said EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Herchensky at a briefing in response to a question about the possibility of the country's membership in the union in 2030, APA's local bureau reports.

He said that as long as there is a regression in terms of fundamental rights and freedoms in Georgia, the country will not become a member of the EU.

The ambassador stressed that the EU is ready to work with the Georgian authorities to change the situation.

It should be noted that Herchensky today submitted the EU's enlargement report to Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Zurabashvili.

It should be noted that the Georgian government has stated that the country will be more prepared for EU membership in 2030 if there is a fair approach.
