Prosecutor demands 18 years for Armenian-origin individual who planned armed provocation in Khankendi

The court hearing on the criminal case of Karen Albertovich Avanesyan, an Armenian-origin resident, accused of committing terrorism and other particularly serious crimes in Khankendi, was held, APA’s local bureau reports.

During the hearing at the Ganja Court on Grave Crimes, chaired by Judge Ilkin Ibishov, Karen Avanesyan gave testimony. Later, witnesses in the criminal case were questioned.

An employee of the Social Services Agency also testified as a witness at the court.

Subsequently, the state prosecutor delivered a statement. The prosecutor requested that Karen Avanesyan be sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment.

The court session will continue on December 25.

Note that on September 14 of this year, Avanesyan Karen Albertovich left his residence and went to a nearby forest area, where he retrieved a previously hidden Kalashnikov assault rifle, four magazines loaded with ammunition, and five grenades. He was attempting to approach the location of an event in Khankendi city when he was detained by police officers. At that time, Avanesyan showed armed resistance to the police by throwing three hand grenades and opening fire with the assault rifle, according to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Avanesyan, who was wounded by a bullet from return fire, was captured.

Based on the evidence collected in the criminal case, Karen Avanesyan has been charged under Articles 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.11 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Attempted intentional killing of two or more persons in connection with terrorism in a generally dangerous manner in connection with the performance of official duties), (attempted murder), Article 214.2.3 (terrorism committed with the use of firearms or objects used as weapons), Article 228.1 (illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of firearms, their component parts, and ammunition), and Article 315 (resistance and use of force against a representative of authority).
