The US and UK embassies have expressed their condolences to Azerbaijan on the anniversary of the tragedy that occurred on December 25, 2024, during the scheduled operation of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger flight J2-8243 on the Baku-Grozny route, APA reports.

This was noted on the social media accounts of both embassies.

"Today we remember those who lost their lives on Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 and celebrate the bravery of Captain İqor Kşnyakin, First Officer Aleksandr Aleksandr Kalyaninov, flight attendant Hokuma Aliyeva whose actions prevented the loss of additional innocent lives. On behalf of the United States, we express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the 38 people who lost their lives, and our heartfelt best wishes to those who survived this tragedy," the US Embassy's condolences said.

"Today we remember the victims of Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243. All of us at the British Embassy in Baku stand with all those affected. Our thoughts remain with the families, survivors, and communities touched by this tragedy," the British Embassy's condolences said.

Recall that one year has passed since the crash of a passenger aircraft of the Embraer 190-100 IGW type, owned by “Azerbaijan Airlines” CJSC (“AZAL”) and registered in the state registry under number 4K-AZ65, which was operating a regular flight J2-8243 from the city of Baku of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the city of Grozny of the Russian Federation, near Aktau Airport in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As a result of the crash, two flight crew members (the captain and the first officer), the senior flight attendant, and 35 passengers were killed.
