Azerbaijan condemns Russian MP’s remarks, hands protest note

On February 6, 2026, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mikhail Yevdokimov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the MFA told APA.

During the meeting with the Russian ambassador, a strong protest was expressed regarding the statement made on February 5 by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, and a member of the ruling United Russia Party, concerning the conviction of citizens of the Republic of Armenia in Azerbaijan. A corresponding note was handed over to the Russian side.

Konstantin Zatulin’s long-standing statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, his open support for separatism, as well as his attempts to distort court decisions and use unacceptable language regarding citizens of the Republic of Armenia who have been convicted for crimes against peace and humanity, as well as war crimes, committed as a result of Armenia’s military aggression against the Republic of Azerbaijan, were firmly condemned.

During the meeting, the Russian side was called upon to take appropriate measures to put an end to the destructive activities of individuals such as Zatulin, who are attempting to undermine peace and stability in the region, as well as relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
