The growth rate of electricity demand in Azerbaijan slowed by 1.8 percentage points last year compared to 2024, APA-Economics reports.
This is reflected in a report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
According to the report, while electricity demand in the country increased by 3.8% in 2024, this indicator in 2025 is estimated at around 2% year-on-year.
The data show that during the period in question, the largest share of electricity generation came from thermal power plants operating on traditional fuels. In particular, thermal power plants running mainly on natural gas accounted for slightly more than 85% of total electricity generation.
At the same time, growth was also recorded in electricity generation from renewable energy sources. According to the IEA, output in this segment increased by 2% year-on-year.
