The killer who shot Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces, has been detained, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing local media.
It was reported that the attacker who shot the general fled to Dubai. He has now been apprehended and is being returned to Russia.
The newspaper Kommersant wrote that two suspects have been identified in the attempted assassination of Alekseyev. A source close to the investigation told the publication that one of them is believed to have inflicted three gunshot wounds on the general.
The source added that the general survived and underwent a successful operation.
According to Kommersant’s source, both suspects will soon be handed over to investigators for questioning. Based on the results, charges are planned to be brought against the accused. If the suspicions are confirmed, a court hearing is expected to take place tomorrow.
