The first phase of construction of a tunnel nearly 200 meters long, which will connect the “Jafar Jabbarli–Nizami” section—one of the main goals of the line separation project in the Baku metro—has been completed, Mammad Rzayev, head of the Construction Projects Management Department of Baku Metro CJSC, told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that within the scope of the work carried out, excavation was conducted at two sites around the “28 May” station—at the car parking area at the intersection of Suleyman Rahimov and Mirali Gashqay streets, as well as at two preparatory shafts located near the “Jafar Jabbarli” station:
“These shafts are used for carrying out construction work and for lowering equipment and materials to the construction site. The construction of two approach sections from the ‘Jafar Jabbarli’ station track to the main tunnel area has been completed.”
Construction works are being carried out using the New Austrian method, one of the safest construction techniques, in accordance with the area’s complex geological conditions. This has ensured optimal technical safety at the site.
The construction process does not create any obstacles to the operation of buses, the railway station, or the “28 May” and “Jafar Jabbarli” stations on the surface. Safe pedestrian access has been provided in all directions in the area.
Note that until the construction of the nearly 200-meter tunnel is completed, train operations will be organized along the “Icherisheher–Ahmadli” line (as well as the “Ahmadli–Hazi Aslanov” shuttle section), the “Darnagul–Nizami” line, and, as currently, the “Jafar Jabbarli–Khatai” line. In the next stage of construction, passengers will use surface transport between the “28 May” and “Nizami” stations.
He stated that the construction of the tunnel is planned to be completed within 11 months after the completion of the first phase of the “Darnagul” electric depot:
“After the installation of the relevant equipment, devices, and systems is completed, the Red line (“Icherisheher–Hazi Aslanov”) and the Green line (“Darnagul–Khatai”) will begin to operate fully independently. Passengers will use the “28 May–Jafar Jabbarli” transfer to switch from the Green line to the Red line and vice versa.
