Deputy minister: Türkiye is ready to share its urban planning experience with D-8 countries

As Türkiye, we see the D-8 not only as a platform for economic cooperation, but also as a strategic platform that strengthens solidarity, green development and a shared vision for the future, Hasan Suver, Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, said at the event titled “High-Level Energy and Urban Dialogue of D-8 Countries” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.

He noted that Türkiye’s main approach in the field of urban planning is to build disaster-resilient, climate-resilient, environmentally friendly and people-centered living spaces:

“After the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, a large-scale reconstruction process was launched under the leadership of our President, and important steps were taken to rebuild our cities in a safer, greener and more sustainable way. We are ready to share the experience we gained during this process with D-8 countries. Today, energy transformation and urban planning policies have become two complementary fields. Energy-efficient buildings, clean transport systems, renewable energy infrastructure, smart city applications, green infrastructure and sustainable housing projects shape the future of our cities. In this regard, I consider it important to develop technical cooperation mechanisms in the fields of urban planning and energy among D-8 member countries.”

He stated that Türkiye is implementing broad policies in the fields of combating climate change, green development, energy transformation and decarbonization of industry toward the net-zero emission target for 2053:

“We consider COP31, which we will host in Antalya in 2026, not only as a summit where discussions are held, but as a global platform focused on implementation, financing and concrete solutions. Within the COP31 process, we attach importance to establishing closer cooperation with D-8 countries in the areas of access to climate finance, green investment projects, sustainable urban practices and sustainable infrastructure.”
