Chechen authorities say Armenian businessman who insulted Muslims was not kidnapped

Chechen authorities have announced that Areg Samvelovich Shepikhin, of Armenian origin, was not kidnapped, but detained, APA's Russian bureau reports.

According to the report, Chechen Minister of National Policy Akhmed Dudayev wrote on his Telegram channel that the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs is investigating Shepikhin, who was taken from the Yaroslavsky railway station yesterday in the cargo compartment of a Mercedes car.

According to Dudayev, the man repeatedly called for ethnic cleansing and Nazism, insulted religion and God, voiced openly extremist views, and declared his intention to rape minors.

The article notes that Shepikhin could be charged with five articles of the Russian Criminal Code, including rehabilitation of Nazism, calls for extremist activities, incitement to hatred or hostility, rape, and aiding the enemy in activities directed against the security of Russia.

Dudayev also threatened Telegram channels that reported on Samvelovich's kidnapping with criminal charges for justifying his actions.
