Tajikistan proposes development of ECO Energy Sustainability Strategy at Khankendi Summit

I thank President Ilham Aliyev for the high-level organization of the Summit, said Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon at the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), APA’s correspondent dispatched to Khankendi reports.

The President of Tajikistan also congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his election as the chair of the 17th ECO Summit.

He said that it would be beneficial to develop a Strategy for Ensuring the Energy Sustainability of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

Emomali Rahmon said that 98 percent of electricity in Tajikistan is obtained from clean energy sources – hydroelectric power plants: “Our region is sensitive to climate change, floods and inundations have caused great damage to the economies of countries. Therefore, special attention should be paid to eliminating the damages. At the same time, efforts should be united in the protection of glaciers, which are a source of water supply. I believe that we will achieve success in this area within the framework of experience and technology exchange.”

Emomali Rahmon noted that cooperation in the humanitarian field should also be expanded among countries.
