At least five people were killed and 12 others injured in Israeli strikes on the city of Tabriz, the capital of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, a local official said on Friday, APA reports citing Iran International.

Majid Farshi, head of the provincial crisis management department, told Iranian state media that several areas of the city were targeted in overnight attacks. Tabriz is located in northwestern Iran, near the country's border with Azerbaijan.

Reports in Iran indicate that Israel has renewed its strikes on the country, APA reports citing The Times of Israel. 

Iran’s Fars news reports strikes in Tabriz, apparently near the city’s airport.

“A few minutes ago, new explosions were heard in East Azerbaijan,” state television says.

The Tasnim news agency says an earlier wave of strikes had hit 10 sites in the province, killing at least three people.
