Finnish President announces progress on Ukraine security issues

Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced on Tuesday, September 2, that progress had been made on security guarantees for Ukraine, but added that a peace agreement must be reached before such measures could be implemented, APA reports citing Reuters.

"We need to coordinate the security arrangements with the United States, which essentially will provide the backstop for this ... We're focusing on these issues with our chiefs of defence, which are drawing the concrete plans of what this type of operation might look like. We're making progress on this, and hopefully we'll get a solution soon," Stubb stated.

At the same time, he added that he is not optimistic about the conclusion of a peace agreement or a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia in the near future.
