Russian MFA: Israel's strike on Doha is a violation of international law and UN Charter

Russia considers Israel’s strike on Doha a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports, citing the statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It was noted that on September 9, Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on buildings in a residential area of Doha, the capital of Qatar, reportedly housing senior members of the Palestinian organization HAMAS. According to available information, 6 people were killed in the attack, including an employee of Qatar’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, and several others were injured.

"Russia considers the incident a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state, and a step leading to further escalation and destabilization in the Middle East.

Such methods of struggle used by Israel against those it considers its enemies and opponents deserve the strongest condemnation.

At the same time, a missile strike on Qatar — a country playing a key mediating role in indirect negotiations between the leadership of HAMAS and Israel aimed at ending the war that has been ongoing in the Gaza Strip for nearly two years and at securing the release of hostages — can only be seen as a blow to international efforts to find a peaceful solution."

In this regard, Moscow once again calls on all parties involved to act responsibly and refrain from actions that could lead to a deterioration of the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and complicate the search for a political settlement. Russia reaffirms its principled and consistent position on the necessity of achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and on the lack of any alternatives to a comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue based on well-known international legal frameworks,” the statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
