Memorandum signed between Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Vatican Apostolic Library and Apostolic Archive

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and the Vatican Apostolic Library and Apostolic Archives, APA reports.

Memorandum was signed by Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Holy See, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and Archbishop Giovanni Cesare Pagatzi, Head of the Apostolic Library and Apostolic Archives.

The purpose of the document is to support direct cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of science and research, as well as to ensure the study, preservation and digitization of documents related to the history of Azerbaijan in the Vatican archives.

Founded in 1475, the Vatican Apostolic Library is considered one of the oldest and most prestigious scientific centers in the world. This library, whose rich collection includes rare manuscripts, incunabula, ancient maps and valuable publications in various languages, is open only to specialized researchers. The Vatican Apostolic Archives was separated from the library in 1612 by the decree of Pope Paul V and formed as an independent institution. It preserves the diplomatic correspondence, papal decrees, administrative records, and other official documents of the Holy See over the centuries. The archive is today recognized as one of the most important historical sources in the world and valuable to researchers.
