Kallas: EU accession of new countries by 2030 is realistic goal

The accession of new countries to the European Union by 2030 is a realistic goal, said Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, APA reports, citing The Guardian.

According to her, Russia's aggression in Ukraine and geopolitical changes clearly demonstrate the need for the EU to expand.

Nevertheless, Kallas warned: "The EU will not offer a shortcut to membership,"

Kaja Kallas described the prospects for Albania, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine to join the EU as positive, while the possibility of Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye joining was mixed.

The EU official assessed the possibility of Georgia joining the EU as negative and said that it was not possible under the current circumstances.
