Overchuk: Russia-Armenia railway through Azerbaijan and Georgia is a contribution to peace

A direct railway connection between Russia and Armenia passing through the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia is a real contribution to peace in the South Caucasus and a sign of joint efforts toward cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk told journalists, APA reports, citing Russian media.

He emphasized that the new route strengthens transport links between Russia and the South Caucasus countries and increases the accessibility of Armenian markets for products from other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Georgia, as well as to his counterparts in Armenia and Azerbaijan, for their work in restoring transport connections in the South Caucasus region.

“I would like to thank Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan for their joint efforts to restore transport connections in the South Caucasus region, as well as Georgia for its constructive participation in organizing transportation along this route,” Overchuk noted.

Note that yesterday, a grain train from Russia traveled through Azerbaijan and Georgia on its way to Armenia.
