The dispatch of the first train loaded with Russian wheat to Armenia via the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia is a very important event, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, for the first time in more than 30 years, since Armenia and Azerbaijan became independent, the first train carrying Russian wheat has been sent to Armenia via this route.
“This is a reality today. It was Russian wheat. Then Kazakh wheat was shipped. We are now discussing the transportation of other goods along this route. Some time ago, information was reported about the shipment of oil products from Azerbaijan to Armenia via this route. That is, we are truly talking about changes. Of course, the trilateral agreement of November 9–10, 2020, between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia played an important role here. At that time, it was effectively possible to stop the war and lay the groundwork for our countries to work together.
At present, Armenia and Azerbaijan are working directly in a bilateral format, including on border-related issues. I know that colleagues also visit each other. Trade between Azerbaijan and Armenia is beginning. Oil products have been shipped. Now there is talk of sending certain cargoes from Armenia to Russia via the territory of Azerbaijan,” Overchuk emphasized.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia also noted that all of this had been considered unlikely until recently.
