Memorial plaque was erected in Grozny in memory of those who died in crash of an AZAL plane

A memorial plaque dedicated to the victims of the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane flying from Baku to Grozny on December 25, 2024, was opened in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, APA's Russian bureau reports.

The opening ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Rahman Mustafayev, AZAL President Samir Rzayev, Head of the Government of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation Galas Taymaskhanov, representatives of the government and parliament of the Chechen Republic, as well as the local Azerbaijani community.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, AZAL President Samir Rzayev noted that the installation of the memorial plaque in Heydar Aliyev Park carries deep symbolic significance.

It was emphasized that the friendly relations between the Azerbaijani and Chechen peoples are based on historical, cultural and spiritual roots. It was noted that the memory of the tragedy will undoubtedly serve to remind us of the need to preserve peace, human life and trust between peoples.

In conclusion, it was stated that the memorial plaque will become a symbol of humanism, human compassion and Azerbaijani-Chechen friendship, and silence, memory, and respect will always reign here.

It should be noted that on December 25 last year, a passenger aircraft operated by AZAL on the Baku–Grozny route crashed in Kazakhstan, resulting in the deaths of 38 of the 67 people on board, while 29 survived.
