The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and six other Iranian citizens, as well as two UK-registered companies, according to a statement from the agency's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), APA reports citing AP.
Among them are the heads of regional police units and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the provinces of Gilan, Kermanshah, Tehran and Hamadan, as well as the head of the IRGC's intelligence agency.
Secondary restrictions were imposed on London-registered British companies Zedcex Exchange and Zedxion Exchange. They provide financial and insurance services and were placed on the sanctions list for their ties to the IRGC. Specifically, according to the Ministry of Finance's statement, Zedcex Exchange has processed transactions totaling approximately $94 billion since August 2022.
