The borders between Türkiye and Armenia will also be opened if peace and long-term reconciliation are achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Shamil Ayrim, the head of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye interparliamentary friendship group at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, during a joint meeting of working groups of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus held at the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
He noted that strengthening education, energy, security issues, and cultural events among Turkic states is very important. Türkiye–Azerbaijan interparliamentary cooperation and regional peace are important.
The head of the Türkiye–Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group stated that interparliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye holds strategic importance both regionally and within the Turkic world.
He noted that amid recent tensions between Iran and the United States, the coordinated actions of Azerbaijan and Türkiye play an important role in maintaining stability in the region.
Shamil Ayrim emphasized that Azerbaijan’s role in the fields of energy, security, and trade, as well as Türkiye’s strategic position as an energy transit hub, are important not only economically but also from the perspective of regional security.
He added that tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus issue further increase this strategic importance, and that joint cooperation is essential to ensure lasting peace in the region.
Shamil Ayrim also noted the support of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, stating that interparliamentary friendship institutions are important for strengthening this cooperation and contributing to the development of joint activity in the Turkic world.
