Azerbaijan sent sacrificial meat to 320 families in Syria

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, a humanitarian aid campaign was organized on June 7–8 in Syria’s war-torn regions of Rural Damascus, Homs, and the Homs countryside under the slogan: “Sincere greetings from the people of Azerbaijan to the brotherly people of Syria,” APA reports citing the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Initiated and coordinated by the Embassy, and supported by the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA), sacrificial meat was distributed to 320 families affected by the war. The charity event was also supported by Syria’s Hayat Foundation and the volunteer groups Sawaid al-Ihsan (“Benevolent Hands”) and Basmat al-Hayat (“Smile of Life”).

The families who received the aid expressed deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani people and government, conveying their heartfelt wishes.

In line with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan plans to continue humanitarian assistance activities for the Syrian population.

It is worth noting that at the end of last year, Azerbaijan sent 200 tons of humanitarian aid to the people of Syria. Additionally, with the support of AIDA and the organization of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Syria, iftar meals were provided for 1,000 orphans in Damascus between March 25–27 of this year.

The first day of the charity campaign covered families of Arab, Turkmen, Circassian, and Alawite origin in the Eastern and Western Ghouta districts of Rural Damascus, while the second day focused on Homs and its surrounding areas. Most of the aid recipients were widowed mothers of multiple children who had lost their husbands due to the prolonged civil war. In total, approximately 1,500 people benefited from the two-day aid effort.
