The 120th anniversary of prominent carpet artist Latif Karimov will be celebrated, APA reports.
President Ilham Aliyev signed an order in this regard.
The order states that in November 2026, the 120th anniversary of Latif Huseyn oghlu Karimov — a great master of Azerbaijani fine arts, prominent carpet expert, educator and art scholar, laureate of the USSR State Prize, and People’s Artist — will be marked.
“It is Latif Karimov’s commendable services that contributed to elevating Azerbaijani carpet culture, which holds an honorable place in the treasury of world cultural heritage, to its current level of development. A large number of plot-based, portrait carpets and monumental carpets woven based on his sketches are unique works of art that embody the bright traditions of national carpet weaving. His deeply colored works, created with innate talent and distinguished by the expressiveness of their patterns and a refined style, brought the artist special fame as one of the renowned carpet masters of his time. Latif Karimov determined the ornamental and compositional features of Azerbaijani carpets and developed a comprehensive systematic classification of them. The fundamental research conducted by the scholar, recognized as an expert in carpet art on an international scale, remains among the most authoritative sources frequently referenced today.”
According to the order, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences are to prepare and implement an action plan related to the 120th anniversary of People’s Artist Latif Karimov, while the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan is to resolve issues arising from this order.
