US general: Over 1,550 commercial vessels and 22,500 sailors stranded in Gulf amid Iran tensions

Since the announcement of the ceasefire, Iran has fired on commercial vessels nine times, seized two container ships, and carried out more than 10 attacks on US forces, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine said at a press conference, APA reports.

He noted that currently more than 22,500 sailors on over 1,550 commercial vessels remain in the Gulf due to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The chairman emphasized that, if necessary, the United States is ready to resume military operations against Iran.
