Azerbaijani PM calls on coastal states to address declining water levels in the Caspian Sea

Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov called on the coastal states to unite their efforts to address the problem of declining water levels in the Caspian Sea at the plenary session of the 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in the Avaza National Tourism Zone of Turkmenistan, APA reports.

Ali Asadov said that the most concerning issue is the decreasing water level in the Caspian Sea.

“Since we are gathered today on the Caspian coast, I would also like to highlight the ecological problems of the Caspian Sea. The most alarming issue is the declining water level. We must unite our efforts to address this common problem faced by the Caspian littoral states. At the 6th Summit of the Heads of State of the Caspian Littoral States held in Ashgabat in 2022, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, paid special attention to this environmental issue. Based on the proposal of the President of Azerbaijan, steps are being taken towards the establishment of expert groups to study the causes of the Caspian Sea's shallowing and to prevent it. We must use all available opportunities to empower landlocked developing countries, integrate our regions, and develop our partnership for a more prosperous world. Azerbaijan is ready to contribute to this work with its experience, resources, and goodwill. I wish success to the 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries and fruitful outcomes for our countries,” the Prime Minister noted.
