Leaders of different countries were spreading rumors that supposedly Azerbaijan was planning to attack Armenia and intended to seize this territory by force. Although we stated that this was false, such perceptions were forming in their minds, including in Washington,”
President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with the media regarding the results of his visit to the United States, APA reports.
The President stated that the Biden Administration was behind Azerbaijanophobia: “We can say this with certainty. Because during contacts with our European partners, they repeatedly told us that this information was being provided to them by the Biden Administration. They were deliberately spreading claims that Azerbaijan had aggressive intentions. In the first months of President Trump’s administration, there were such statements originating from the previous team, because those people were still represented in various state institutions. NGOs like Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, and agencies like USAID treated Azerbaijan with hatred. President Trump abolished USAID, thus saving the world from this disastrous organization.
This was a challenge for us, because we declared that we had no such intentions. Today, in Washington, in the Declaration I signed together with the Prime Minister of Armenia in the presence of the U.S. President, our position is clearly and concretely stated: namely, there must be unhindered connection between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. What we need is unobstructed transit, ensuring passage from one part of Azerbaijan to another. Incidentally, this is also Armenia’s obligation. It is noted in the document signed on November 10, 2020. For five years there was no progress on this matter, no physical work was carried out on the ground. We have brought the railway line almost to the border with Armenia. In six months, or at most one year, we will be able to extend the railway to the Armenian border. In addition, the railway project in Nakhchivan is also being implemented. Once we build the infrastructure over this 40 km distance, we will be able to connect Azerbaijan. Alongside the railway, we are seriously considering power lines, fiber-optic cables, and other energy infrastructure. Ultimately, this will allow us to integrate not only Azerbaijan’s, but in the future also our Caspian region neighbors’ energy resources into the system.
Thus, the discourse against Azerbaijan was being prepared by the Biden Administration. Who were their instruments? NGOs, media outlets, and some corrupt politicians like Menendez and Adam Schiff. At present, Menendez is in prison for corruption. In fact, upon arriving here we heard that the prosecutor’s office had launched a criminal case against Adam Schiff for mortgage fraud. These people – Menendez, Adam Schiff, Pelloni, Pelosi, Markey, Christopher Smith, and others – were attacking Azerbaijan. All of them treated Azerbaijan with hatred; I do not know why they hated us. Most likely, the Armenian lobby was paying them for this hatred towards Azerbaijan.
These individuals, this group, are serious political figures and actors, and they were engaged in activities against Azerbaijan.”
