World Gold Council: Azerbaijan among top gold buyers in 2025

The World Gold Council (WGC) has released data on gold purchases by central banks and other financial institutions worldwide, APA-Economics reports.

According to the WGC report, in 2025, the largest net gold buyer was the National Bank of Poland, acquiring 67 tons. Other major buyers include Kazakhstan with 40 tons (National Bank of Kazakhstan) and Azerbaijan with 38 tons (State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan, SOFAZ/ARDNF).

ARDNF reported that as of January 1, 2025, the Fund’s gold reserves totaled 146.6 tons, increasing to 184.8 tons by October 1. In other words, ARDNF added 38.2 tons of gold to its reserves over the past nine months.
