43% of the population of this region of Armenia are poverty-related – Official statistics


The Statistical Committee of Armenia has published a comprehensive report, "State of Poverty," for 2024.

reports citing the data, that Shirak is the poorest region in Armenia.
43% of the region's population is in poverty.
Tavush ranks second, with a poverty rate of 39.9%.
Poverty rates above the national average are also found in the Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Armavir, and Kotayk regions. The lowest rates are recorded in the Aragatsotn (7.6%) and Syunik (6.2%) regions.
It should be noted that in Armenia in 2024, the overall poverty rate was 21.7%, with extreme poverty at 0.6%. According to official estimates, a citizen is considered poor if their monthly consumption (the poverty threshold) does not exceed 53,420 drams (US$140). Consumer spending less than 29,196 drams (US$77) is considered extreme poverty.
The report shows that the larger the family, the higher the likelihood of poverty. The poverty rate in families of six was 27.4%, and in families of seven or more, 39%.
For reference, last year, the poverty rate in Azerbaijan was 5.3%, and the poverty line was 270.1 manat (US$159).
