A trial was held in Khankendi on the criminal case of Avanesyan Karen Albertovich, a resident of Armenian origin, accused of committing terrorism and other particularly serious crimes, APA reports.
In the trial, chaired by the judge of the Ganja Court on Grave Crimes, Ilkin Ibishov, the accused Avanesyan Karen Albertovich was provided with an interpreter and a lawyer.
Then the prosecutor announced the indictment.
After the indictment was announced, the accused Karen Avanesyan gave a statement.
Later, the victims and witnesses in the criminal case gave statements.
The trial will continue on December 18.
Note that on September 14 of this year, Avanesyan Karen Albertovich left his residence and went to a forested area near the city, where he retrieved an AK-47 assault rifle he had previously hidden, along with four magazines filled with ammunition and five grenades. He intended to approach the venue of an event taking place in the city of Khankendi. When police officers attempted to stop him, K. Avanesyan offered armed resistance by throwing three hand grenades and opening fire with the assault rifle. As a result of return fire, K. Avanesyan was wounded and subsequently apprehended.
Based on the evidence collected in the criminal case, Karen Avanesyan has been charged under Articles 29,120.2.3, 29,120.2.4, 29,120.2.7, 29,120.2.11 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Attempted intentional killing of two or more persons in connection with terrorism in a generally dangerous manner in connection with the performance of official duties), (attempted murder), Article 214.2.3 (terrorism committed with the use of firearms or objects used as weapons), Article 228.1 (illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of firearms, their component parts, and ammunition), and Article 315 (resistance and use of force against a representative of authority).
