The winner of the "Baku Marathon 2026" held on May 3 at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was determined, APA reports.
The first male athlete to reach the finish line in the marathon was Ahmet Alkanoglu from Türkiye. Ukrainian racer Vitaliy Shafar came in second, and Kyrgyzstan's Yrskeldi Akerov came in third.
In the women's race, Elena Tolstykh from Russia took first place, Anna Yusupova from Azerbaijan took second, and Shirin Akimbay from Kazakhstan took third place.
Note that this year, the Baku Marathon was held for the first time not at a distance of 21 kilometers, but at a full 42 kilometers, and 25,000 participants took part in the marathon.
