Ministry official: Digitalization is key to becoming transit hub

Digitalization plays a key role in Azerbaijanchr("39")s transformation into a transit hub.

As Olaylar informs that Aytan Turabova, head of the International Transport Operations Sector of the Transport Policy Department at the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, said this at the 2nd Caspian International Transport, Transit and Logistics Forum in Baku.

According to her, Azerbaijan has a strategic position at the intersection of the East-West and North-South transport corridors and has become an important transit hub in the region.

"The application of digital solutions is of particular importance for strengthening this position. To achieve this goal, Azerbaijan is taking a comprehensive approach to the development of its transport system. This approach combines both hard connectivity, which covers the development of physical infrastructure, and soft connectivity measures such as digitalization, trade facilitation and the simplification of procedures," she said.

"Over the past 20 years, significant investments have been directed into the development of the countrychr("39")s transport system. As part of this, railway lines, airports, port infrastructure and highways have been built, while existing networks have been modernized. Among the important projects, a special place belongs to the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, whose capacity has been increased to 5 million tons, as well as the Baku International Sea Trade Port, which has an annual handling capacity of 15 million tons of cargo and 150,000 TEU containers," the ministry official added.
