Belarusian opposition figure Sergei Tikhanovsky released from prison -VIDEO

Belarusian opposition figure Sergei Tikhanovsky has been released from prison, APA reports.

According to Nasha Niva, his release came following the visit of Kit Kellogg, a special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump, to Minsk. Tikhanovsky has already left Belarus.

He was detained ahead of the 2020 presidential elections and had spent more than five years behind bars.

A total of 14 individuals, including Belarusian opposition figure Sergei Tikhanovsky, have been released from prison.

John Cole, deputy to Keith Kellogg — a special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump — stated on platform X that the releases were made possible through Trump’s diplomatic efforts in collaboration with Lithuanian authorities.

Sergei Tikhanovsky was detained ahead of the 2020 presidential elections. He spent more than five years in prison.

A Belarusian court sentenced the blogger to 18 years in prison. Tikhanovsky and his associates were accused of organizing and preparing mass unrest in Belarus. He was found guilty of openly calling for violence against government officials and law enforcement officers through his YouTube and Telegram channels.

Note that Sergei Tikhanovsky is the husband of Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tikhanovskaya.
