Armenia restarts constitutional reform talks Region

The first meeting of the Constitutional Reform Council in Armenia after a long period will be held in two weeks, Armenian Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan said after a government meeting, Olaylar informs, citing the local press.

According to Galyan, the new text of the Constitution could be ready within 10 months, but the period depends on the progress of the discussions. The minister noted that the discussion of the draft could be open.

"The text is at the stage of preparation. Discussions will be held on the main conceptual provisions and only then the document will be presented to the public," he said.

The minister also added that as a result of the discussions, there may be significant changes to the draft. According to him, the issue of possible amendments to the Declaration of Independence will also be discussed.

In late March, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that a referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution is planned for 2027. At the same time, the prime minister added that his team is discussing the feasibility of holding the referendum in parallel with the parliamentary elections in 2026.
