The Ahmadbeyli–Fuzuli–Shusha Highway Project has been declared the winner in the “Innovative Construction Methodology” category by the International Road Federation, Ayyub Huseynov, an engineer for projects at the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA), told APA.
Modern Road Infrastructure is Being Built in the Liberated Territories
It was noted that road infrastructure in the territories liberated from occupation is being constructed to a high standard and in line with modern requirements. During the construction process, reinforced concrete and metal safety barriers, as well as lighting systems, were installed along the route.
The New Highway is an Alternative to the “Victory Road”
The Ahmadbeyli–Fuzuli–Shusha highway is among these major projects: “The newly commissioned road serves as an alternative to the ‘Victory Road.’ It is also shorter than the Victory Road. While the length of the Victory Road is 101 kilometers, the new highway is 81.7 kilometers long, shortening the distance by 19.3 kilometers. The road, which meets the standards of the first technical grade, includes six lanes along the initial 48 kilometers and four lanes along the remaining 33.7 kilometers. The route includes 1 interchange, 11 bridges, 7 tunnels, 6 viaducts, underpasses, and other essential infrastructure. The total length of the bridges built within the scope of the project is 1,557 meters. Reinforced concrete and metal safety barriers, along with lighting systems, were installed along the entire route.”
The New Road Connects the Region’s Key Cities
The Ahmadbeyli–Fuzuli–Shusha highway originates from the Hajigabul–Horadiz–Aghbend–Zangazur Corridor main highway and connects the cities of Fuzuli, Khojavend, Khojaly, and Shusha.
It should be noted that this highway was built in accordance with the First State Program on the Great Return to the Liberated Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, approved by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev. The project is significant for diversifying the internal road network and improving transport links between the region and other districts of the country. At the same time, the new road will contribute greatly to the development of tourism and the enhancement of economic activity in the region.
