Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 7 July with the parliamentary delegation currently in our country on an official visit, led by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Press and Public Relations Department

It was pointed out at the meeting that the strategic ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan were based on the principles of friendship and brotherhood. Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked that the current visit was another manifestation of the high level of relations between our countries. Mentioning then the guests’ meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis said added that our Head of State has always paid special attention to strengthening the relations between our countries.
It was said during the conversation that the people of Azerbaijan highly appreciated Pakistan’s support extended to our country during the 30-year-long Armenian occupation of our lands as well as during the Patriotic War.
As she underlined the special role of high-level visits in the progress of the bilateral relations, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis broached the significance of President Ilham Aliyev’s visits to Pakistan, Pakistani leaders’ visits to Azerbaijan and the documents signed. It was said that the participation of Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif in the 17th Summit of the Economic Co-operation Organisation in Khankendi a few days ago had come as another example of our friendship.
Turning to the inter-parliamentary ties, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova underlined the successful work done by the Friendship Groups in both legislative assemblies, adding that a very good relationship has been built between our parliaments to date. Besides, our legislatures co-operate closely in a number of international organisations. The trilateral co-operation format encompassing Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye is one of the achievements of the strategic allies that our states are.
Also, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the trilateral summit of the Leaders of Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye in the town of Lachin on 28 May; she underscored its significance. She said that the trilateral format co-operation continued on the level of the parliaments as well; she proceeded to share her thoughts about the planned third trilateral meeting of the Speakers of Parliament.
Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq voiced his appreciation for the hospitality and invitation to our country before saying that Pakistan and Azerbaijan were always brotherly countries who support each other. The Assembly Speaker thanked Azerbaijan for her solidarity with Pakistan over the conflict with India.
He stated that strengthening ties between the geographical regions in which our countries are located is of great importance for the future. Furthermore, Pakistan’s consistent support for Azerbaijan across all international platforms was emphasised.
The guest noted that the participation of Heads of State and government in the Summit held in Khankendi a few days ago served as both a signal to the global community and a demonstration of support for Azerbaijan’s victory.
As the conversation continued, the Speaker of the National Assembly shared his ideas about the development prospects of the inter-parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan as well as their experience exchanges, and provided information about the structure and modus operandi of the Parliament of Pakistan and about also the important role of periodical reciprocal visits.
The meeting also saw an exchange of views upon other matters of shared interest.
