Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), one of “AZCON Holding” companies, met with Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railways JSC in Baku, Azerbaijan Railways told APA-Economics.
The meeting discussed cooperation on the development of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line, the importance of modernizing the Georgian section of this railway, and its role as one of the main segments of the Middle Corridor in freight transport.
An exchange of views was held on strengthening the activities of the joint venture "BTKI Railways" LLC in order to ensure more efficient organization of cargo transportation and attract new cargo through the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway, whose annual capacity has been increased to 5 million tons.
The parties also discussed the current stage of implementation of the roadmap signed in June of this year, aimed at elevating cooperation to a new level. It was noted that currently, Azerbaijani and Georgian railway experts are actively and constructively exchanging the necessary information to coordinate and optimize joint activities.
It was noted that through more effective and prompt cooperation, both via working groups and regular direct meetings, efforts will be intensified to ensure more efficient organization of cargo transportation along the East–West–East route passing through both countries.
In addition, the measures to be taken by the end of this year for the implementation of paperless documentation in cargo transportation via the Middle Corridor and the launch of the "Track and Trace" cargo tracking system were reviewed.
