Azerbaijan Embassy: Meetings are underway with French authorities regarding parents whose children were taken from them at Paris airport

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the French Republic has issued a press statement regarding the situation faced by citizens Guliyev Mahammad and Abdullayeva Gultaj,  the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France said in response to APA's inquiry.

Since the day information was received about the situation encountered by citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Guliyev Mahammad and Abdullayeva Gultaj, along with their two children, while traveling from Germany to Azerbaijan via the territory of France, the staff of the Consular section have been addressing the matter.

It was noted that, based on an appeal made to the Embassy's hotline on July 7, 2025, return certificates were issued by the Embassy for the two children of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Guliyev Mahammad and Abdullayeva Gultaj.

On August 6, the family, who attempted to leave the territory of France, was detained by the border police of this country, and their children were placed in a temporary shelter.

This action by the French police was justified by a decision of a German court to remove guardianship of the children from their parents.

At present, it is expected that the matter will be reviewed by the local court in France and that a certain conclusion will be reached regarding the decision of the German court. During this period, the parents have been granted the opportunity to meet with their children.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in France is holding meetings with the relevant French authorities on the matter and is ensuring the necessary coordination. The Embassy, as well as the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, are providing assistance to the citizens regarding their temporary stay in France.
