"Over the past ten days, I have often heard such questions: if Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity, what will happen to the more than two hundred square kilometers of Armenian lands under Azerbaijani control?" Armenian Prime Minister tried to answer this question in his address to the people, APA reports.
"I want to explain that in the declaration and the preliminary agreement, both sides recognized the inviolability of borders and territorial integrity on the basis of the 1991 Almaty Declaration. This means that the territories of Armenia and Azerbaijan are determined by the borders of the former Soviet republics.
These issues must be resolved in the process of delimitation and demarcation. A new logic of peace is at work here: when talking about the Armenian territories under Azerbaijani control, we must also recognize the Azerbaijani territories under Armenian control. The solution is possible only within the framework of the process of determining mutual and fair borders.
I understand that such emphases may be difficult for some. But this is precisely the logic of the new peace. We must look at the reality and the region differently, reassess it."
