Indonesian police have fired tear gas at protesters gathered near two universities in the major regional city of Bandung, APA reports, citing Reuters.
This has further escalated tensions in demonstrations that have been ongoing since last week, leaving eight people dead.
It was noted that the protests in Indonesia began in the capital Jakarta and were directed against government spending, such as additional privileges granted to members of parliament. The demonstrations later spread across the country. Following an incident in which a police vehicle struck and killed a motorcycle taxi driver, the protests turned into clashes and looting, causing millions of dollars in damage to the capital.
