On September 3–4, 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov paid a visit to the Republic of Peru, APA reports.
During the visit, the first political consultations were held in the city of Lima between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Peru.
The delegations were led by Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov from the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Felix Denegri Boza from the Peruvian side.
During the consultations, the current state and development prospects of relations between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, energy, culture, tourism, and other areas were discussed, and the importance of establishing a contractual and legal framework in the mentioned fields was emphasized.
Through relevant presentations, information was provided about the existing economic and trade opportunities in both countries, and mutual support was expressed for the promotion of joint initiatives.
Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with the President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Head of the Peru-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Jose Enrique Geri. At the meeting, views were exchanged on the development prospects of inter-parliamentary relations, and the importance of cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms was emphasized.
At the same time, during the meeting with Peru's Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmer Schialer Salcedo, the counterpart expressed his country's interest in developing bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and stated his hope that the first political consultations would give impetus to the expansion of relations in various fields.
Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov gave interviews to Ricardo Sanchez Serra, a correspondent of Peru's leading newspaper La Razon and Vice President of the Peru Journalists' Union, as well as to the official media outlets of the country — El Peruano newspaper and the Andina state information agency.
Additionally, E. Mammadov delivered a lecture at Peru’s “San Marcos” National University, one of the oldest higher education institutions on the American continent. During the lecture, a detailed presentation was given on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities, and questions of interest from the audience were answered.
