The successful outcomes of COP29, held in Baku last November, have gone down in history as the “Baku Leap,” President Ilham Aliyev said in his address to the participants of the 13th session of the CICA Think Tanks Forum titled “Resonance of Development and Security: Regional Cooperation and Governance in the Institutional Transformation of CICA,” APA reports.
In his address, the head of state also recalled that during Azerbaijan’s successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement from 2019 to 2023, the country spoke out against the injustices faced by the Global South and worked to strengthen the Movement’s position on the international stage.
“It is commendable that the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform was held this year in Baku. At the same time, as the chair of COP29, the promotion of the perspectives of Global South countries regarding the climate agenda, and the addressing of the needs of the least developed countries, particularly small island states, have been among our priorities,” the President of Azerbaijan emphasized.
